Help

Highlight is not a search engine, but a system that retrieves document from a set of search engines and develops a dynamic concept hierarchy coming with the document list. Therefore, it does not require any particular syntax to form the query.

Basic Search

With basic search, what you need to do is just typing a query in the edit box, and pressing the Enter key or clicking the Search button.

Advanced Search

Advanced search allows you to define the options for the search. By doing this you may be able to get better results. Highlight allows you to choose which search engines are to be searched. To include a search engine in the search you should check the box before the name of the search engine. The number of documents to be retrieved can also be defined. Choosing a larger number will introduce more documents, but the search process may take longer. You can also specify the type and the number of concepts. The following picture will give more details about each option.

option1.gif (4690 bytes)

A: choose the search engines that are to be searched by checking the boxes before the name of each search engine.
B: define the number of documents to be retrieved. Note that this is the total number for all documents, not for any individual search engine. Because there may be duplicate URLs in results from individual sources, the number of the merged results may be slightly different from the number defined here.
C: define the types of concepts. Phrases only means the concept must be phrases (at least two words), while Any terms has no limitations on the number of words that describe the concept.
D: define the number of concepts to be extracted from the documents. The number will affect the size and depth of the hierarchy.

E: Document Frequency means the number of documents in which a concept occurs. Increase this number to exclude those concepts that occur in less documents.
F: Phrase Length is the number of words that describe a concept.
